Jarvis Leading In Sheriff’S Race

BONNER SHERIFF

Phil Jarvis will soon be swapping places with Bonner County Sheriff Chip Roos.

Roos is retiring, while Jarvis, 63, is giving up retirement to be Bonner County’s top cop.

Jarvis, who retired from the San Diego Police Department in 1991 after 33 years of service, maintained a strong lead as election returns were counted Tuesday evening.

“I think they want decisive leadership. I know the troops do,” Jarvis said Tuesday night, shortly before a Scottish pipe and drum band marched through the Power House where Jarvis supporters celebrated. “I said I was going to listen to the people and I was going to work hard. That’s a promise I’m going to keep.”

Jarvis, who retired as a senior captain in San Diego, not only had the most law enforcement experience of the four general election candidates, but he also collected the most campaign contributions - more than $11,000.

Trailing Jarvis were Democrat Maurice “JR” Banks, independent Dave Morgan and Don Parkison, another independent candidate.
