Bank One Corp. on Tuesday named former U.S. Bancorp president and chief operating officer Philip Heasley, 51, to head its troubled First USA unit, the nation’s third-largest credit card issuer.

Pets.com is being put to sleep. The San Francisco-based online retailer, known for its commercials with a sock puppet dog and the slogan “Because pets can’t drive” - said Tuesday it is closing down after failing to find a financial backer or buyer.

Licensed sports-clothing maker Logo Athletic Inc. has filed for protection from its creditors under Chapter 11 of U.S. bankruptcy law.

BP Amoco PLC’s third-quarter net profit jumped 94 percent, due largely to higher prices for oil and gas together with thrifty spending, the company said Tuesday.
