Ccs 2Nd In East

Community Colleges of Spokane finished in second place in its volleyball division by staging a five-game comeback on Wednesday against Big Bend CC at Moses Lake.

The Sasquatch overcame the Vikings 15-9, 11-15, 8-15, 15-11, 15-9 in the final regular-season match of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges season.

CCS finished 7-3 in the East Division, one match ahead of Walla Walla for second place. The Sasquatch (30-20) will open the Nov. 16-18 conference tournament at Mt. Hood CC against West Division No. 3 Lower Columbia.

Women’s basketball

Jessica Malone made 4 of 7 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 18 points, and Gonzaga beat Manukau, New Zealand, 66-33 in an exhibition at Martin Centre.

GU’s Nathalie Chevallay added 16 points, on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, and tied Chelsea Clark for team honors with 10 rebounds.

Manukau (0-5) shot 19 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 62-39.
