Ahern Holds Slight Lead On Geraghty
Republican John Ahern’s lead in the race for a 6th District House seat grew slightly Thursday, but the contest remained too close to call.
A count of 2,448 absentee ballots gave Ahern a 117-vote margin over Democrat Jack Geraghty. The margin was 77 votes on Election Day.
The race will be decided by an additional 5,636 mail-in ballots that have yet to be counted, as well as any additional ballots that have not been received.
Elections workers have today off to observe Veterans Day, which is Saturday. They will open and prepare the ballots Monday and count them Tuesday.
The 6th District is one of a handful of statewide races for the House of Representatives still up for grabs. Both parties hope to gain control of the House, which has been split 49-49 along party lines.
Democrats currently hold a tenuous one-seat majority for the new Legislature, although King County officials plan to count additional votes in two close House races today.
