Spokane Garbage System Wins Gold

The Spokane Regional Solid Waste System has received a top award from an international organization.

Spokane received the Gold Award from the Solid Waste Association of North America for excellence in integrated systems. It shared the award with Pinellas County, Florida.

The award recognizes Spokane’s efforts to integrate recycling efforts into its solid waste collection, including producing power from Northside landfill methane and offering same-day collection of refuse and recyclables.

The award was announced at Monday’s City Council meeting.
