Eastern Teams Roll In B Games

High school football

After one round of the State B-11 playoffs, the Southeast went 4-0, the Northeast went 2-2 and Central Washington was swept out.

Two-time defending state champion and top-ranked DeSales led the way with a 38-6 win over Republic in Walla Walla, running its winning streak to 33.

Pomeroy proved the biggest surprise with a 33-7 win over previously unbeaten and No. 4 Manson.

The Southeast also got a 32-7 win by No. 10 Asotin over No. 8 Reardan in Clarkston. Waitsburg started the sweep with a 26-0 win at Kittitas on Thursday.

The Northeast wins were easy for the home team: No. 2 Ritzville over Waterville 28-0 and No. 5 Davenport over Bridgeport-Mansfield 52-0.

In round two, DeSales plays Waitsburg, Asotin plays Ritzville and Davenport plays Pomeroy. Sites and times will be determined today.

Ritzville 28, Waterville 0

Aaron Abney scored on runs of 5 and 21 yards in the first quarter for the Broncos (10-0).

Nick Portrey added a 10-yard run and Brett Alspach a 2-yarder in the second quarter.

Davenport 52, Bridgeport 0

Andy Schreck carried six times for 139 yards and scored on long runs to open both halves for the Gorillas (9-1).

Justin Holderby had four carries for 104 yards and three scores. Schreck and Clark Pauls both had 12 tackles.

Asotin 32, Reardan 7

Dan Vantrease ran for a touchdown and threw for another in the second quarter as the Tigers (8-2) took control of the Indians (7-3).

Vantrease hit 10 of 17 passes for 167 yards and his brother Reuben had an interception and a fumble recovery.

Travis Haganah, who rushed for 79 yards on 14 carries, had a 17-yard TD run in the first quarter before the Indians tied it early in the second on Josh Hicks’ interception return.

DeSales 38, Republic 6

Freshman Shaun Donnelly, pressed into duty at running back with the season-ending injury to Brian Hall, rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a TD pass for the Irish (10-0).

Omak 40, Pullman 12

The Pioneers (8-2) rolled up 413 yards rushing, led by Brian Cate, who had 153 and two touchdowns.

Pullman (6-4) trailed 9-0 when Jacob Petz returned a kickoff 89 yards but the Pioneers responded with two TD drives.

The Greyhounds were held to 9 yards in the second half.
