Talbott Urges Support For Powers

Mayor John Talbott encouraged citizens to welcome John Powers as their new mayor at Monday’s City Council meeting.

Talbott lost to Powers after a hard fought and occasionally bitter campaign and did not concede defeat on election night.

On Monday, however, he encouraged the city to rally around the new mayor, who sat in the audience in the Council Chambers,

“I would ask citizens and staff to give their total support to the new mayor,” Talbott said. “With that sort of support behind the mayor, that mayor can only succeed.”

Talbott also said that any worries of his trying to sabotage the city in his last two months in office were misplaced.

“I love my city and I love it deeply,” he said. “I would do nothing to harm it.”
