Churches Plan Thanksgiving Services
Next Thursday is Thanksgiving, a day when many people gather in churches to give thanks for their blessings. This year several West Plains and South Side churches are planning to offer special Thanksgiving worship services in advance.
The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard, will host a Thanksgiving Eve worship service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. A food bank barrel will be available for those who would like to bring canned goods to donate.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church will put on a worship service to observe Thanksgiving at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The offering collected will benefit the Lutheran Church’s World Hunger Program.
The church is located at 314 S. Spruce.
Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church is planning to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with a special worship service at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The church is located at 4102 S. Crestline.
The Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Cheney, located at 639 Elm, will put on its Thanksgiving worship service at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Church members will be joined by the congregation of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
The offering will be given to Cheney Outreach and canned goods will be collected for the Cheney food bank.
Central Lutheran Church, 512 S. Bernard, will celebrate Thanksgiving Eve with a worship service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The special service will be followed by a pie social.
Holiday comes early to Westminster
Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ will host a Harvest Festival worship service Sunday at 10:30 a.m. A musical performance will be part of the service.
The church will also host a Thanksgiving potluck dinner at noon Sunday. The church will provide the turkey, potatoes, gravy and beverages. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.
The dinner is free, but people planning to attend are asked to make reservations by calling the church office at 624-1366.

Musicians perform at Cathedral
Women’s choirs from Seattle and Spokane will be joined by musicians to present a Mystical Music Tour concert Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th.
Works by Vivaldi, Hildegard of Bingen and Katarine von Tirs will be performed. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $7 for children under 12. They can be purchased through G&B Select-A-Seat or by calling 325-SEAT. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door one hour before the concert.
The Cathedral also is putting the finishing touches on a dedication ceremony for its new columbarium. The dedication will be held immediately after the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday.
A little Thanksgiving history
A representative of the Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Mass., will be in Spokane this week to present a living history program on Plymouth, circa 1627. The program begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1502 W. Eighth. The Plimoth Plantation is known for its daily historical pageant and village representing Plymouth in the 17th century.
