Cheney House Fire Sparked By Problem Inside Chimney
It took more than six hours and two dozen firefighters to put out a blaze that destroyed part of a home north of Cheney on Friday night, fire officials said.
The fire, which resulted in about $75,000 worth of damage, destroyed the top portion of a house located at 12215 W. Meadowlake Road.
It started at about 11:50 p.m. with a chimney failure, Deputy Chief Kelly Jennings said.
Fire from the wood stove ended up setting the attic on fire because of a malfunction in the chimney, he said.
The six occupants escaped unharmed.
