How they scored First quarter
Washington 6, Washington State 0: Wilbur Hooks 19-yard pass from Marques Tuiasosopo. Kick failed. Six plays, 43 yards, 1:13. The Huskies were able to take the ball down the field on their first drive and get it into the end zone. But the score was not without controversy. On the third-and-10 play, it appeared that Tuiasosopo crossed the line of scrimmage. Flags were thrown but after a discussion were picked up, and the touchdown was allowed.
Washington 13, Washington State 0: Justin Robbins 6-yard pass from Tuiasosopo. John Anderson kick. Thirteen plays, 80 yards, 5:35. The Cougars had the Huskies stopped on their second drive, but cornerback Chris Martin was assessed with a personal foul to give the Huskies a first down. With new life, the Huskies easily pushed the Cougars down the field for the score.
Second quarter
Washington 20, Washington State 0: Pat Conniff 6-yard run. Anderson kick. Five plays, 74 yards, 0:54. Tuiasosopo proved too much to handle for the Cougars defense on the drive. First, he and Rich Alexis teamed up on a 34-yard option pass. Then the quarterback shook off two near sacks and completed a 18-yarder to Braxton Cleman. Cleman caught a 21-yarder next. Conniff then bulled his way into the end zone.
Washington 27, Washington State 0: Robbins 34-yard pass from Tuiasosopo. Anderson kick. Two plays, 41 yards, 0:16. The Cougars went for a fourth-and-1 with 30 seconds left in the half at their own 43. David Minnich didn’t get it. The Huskies took over and after a pass across the middle, Tuiasosopo went up top. The senior QB used a pump fake and found Robbins in front of two WSU defensive backs.
Third quarter
Washington 30, Washington State 0: Anderson 41-yard field goal. Seven plays, 44 yards, 2:53. Todd Elstrom pulled in a 43-yard pass from Tuiasosopo and the Huskies were right back in scoring position. The drive stalled when Tuiasosopo misfired twice inside the 30-yard line.
Washington 37, Washington State 0: Alexis 1-yard run. Anderson kick. Ten plays, 50 yards, 5:34. The Huskies went to the ground to run out the clock and ran the Cougars out of the building. Alexis and Cleman worked the inside and had 4 yards before the Cougars could even get a hand on them.
Washington 37, Washington State 3: Drew Dunning 33-yard field goal. Eight plays, 71 yards, 3:26. Minnich, the only real offense for the Cougars, busted two long runs. Matt Kegel hit Nakoa McElrath for another big gain and the Cougars were inside the Washington 10. An intentional grounding call on Kegel forced the Cougars into the field goal.
Fourth quarter
Washington 44, Washington State 3: Cleman 3-yard run. Anderson good. Four plays, 39 yards, :58. The Huskies used a solid runback combined with a face-mask penalty to start their drive in Cougars territory. From there, the Huskies kept it on the ground to score their sixth touchdown of the afternoon.
Washington 51, Washington State 3: Sean Sweat 1-yard run. Jim Skurski kick. Seven plays, 27 yards, 4:26. Toure Butler returned a WSU punt 25 yards to give the Huskies the ball at the Cougars 27. Still, the Cougars had the Huskies stopped until James Price picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct flag to give UW new life.
