Surplus Coho Donated
Fisheries
A bonanza of coho salmon is returning to Columbia River fish hatcheries, and 300,000 pounds of them are headed to Washington food banks.
The processed fish will amount to 120,000 pounds of salmon fillets to be apportioned to every county, Washington Fish and Wildlife Department officials said.
The agency has been giving food banks surplus hatchery fish for 11 years.
Spokane County has so far received 5,000 pounds of fillets.
