‘Charlies’ Angels’ Worth Seeing Again
If you can look past the corny scenes, revealing outfits and fights that came straight out of “The Matrix,” I think you’ll find “Charlie’s Angels” entertaining.
The plot seemed scripted for a TV episode, but it was easy to follow and held my interest. The creator of voice-recognition software is kidnapped, and the software is stolen. The mysterious millionaire Charlie (John Forsythe), an unseen character who only communicates via speaker phone, tells the Angels about the case. Bad-girl Dylan (Drew Barrymore), ditzy Natalie (Cameron Diaz) and genius Alex (Lucy Liu) immediately start searching for the villain.
To get the software back, they are faced with problems identical to those Tom Cruise tackled in “Mission Impossible.” Predictable plot lines in the middle of the film are followed by a twist that some people might expect. (I wasn’t one of those people.) And suddenly, the Angels are faced with a new problem: Their leader Bosley (Bill Murray) is kidnapped, and someone is after Charlie.
This movie had many hilarious scenes. Many of the action shots were believable and a positive aspect of the film is that Drew Barrymore (who also was the co-producer) had the Angels’ famous guns abolished. She also landed boyfriend Tom Green a small role as “the Chad.” How much you like “the Chad” will depend on how much you like Tom Green.
Although this movie looks as though it was aimed at a male audience (considering the stars and the outfits they wear), I still enjoyed it and would gladly see it again.
