Pirates Lose Opener

Teresa Kleindienst scored a game-high 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists to lead the Simon Fraser Clansmen (10-0) to a 68-50 non-conference women’s basketball win over the Whitworth Pirates (0-1) on Sunday in Burnaby, British Columbia. Erica Ewart led the Whits with 14 points. Teammate Mindy Bandy had nine rebounds.

Soccer

Trina Hodo and Katie Peters each scored a goal to lead Edmonds to a 2-0 victory over North Idaho College in the championship match of the NWAACC women’s soccer tournament in Bothell, Wash.

Portland edged Washington 1-0 in the second round of the women’s NCAA tournament in Seattle. The loss ends Washington’s season. No other details were available.

North Idaho placed third at the men’s NWAACC tournament in Bothell with a 3-0 victory over Highline. Drew Blossen, Luke Rakow and Lawson Tate scored the goals.

Volleyball

Lisa Underhill, Allison Richardson and Paige Benjamin combined for 39 kills as Washington (8-19) swept Gonzaga (5-24) 15-10, 15-13, 15-1 in non-conference play in Seattle.

Heather Osberg totaled a game-high 16 kills for the Zags.
