Robyn Sonju-Felder had 18 kills and four blocks and Janelle Ruen added 13 kills and 16 digs to spark Eastern Washington to a 15-12, 15-6, 13-15, 15-8 victory over Idaho in Friday’s first round of the Boise State Thanksgiving Classic women’s volleyball tournament in Boise.
Eastern (19-10) , making a final effort to make the NCAA tournament when the field is announced Sunday, plays Boise State today. The Broncos defeated Gonzaga 15-3, 5-15, 15-11, 15-8.
Heather Kniss tallied 18 kills and 11 digs to pace Idaho (15-12). Jenny Kniss and Anna-Marie Hammond each had 16 kills.
Idaho takes on Gonzaga today to close out the season.
Tara Brinkerhoff totaled 13 kills and 15 digs to lead Boise State’s win over Gonzaga.
Denise Mullin and Chere Sommer combined for 54 assists for the Broncos (8-19).
Heather Osberg finished with 19 kills, 11 digs and two blocks for the Bulldogs (4-24). Britt Whiting chipped in with 13 kills and 16 digs.
