Pearl Harbor Will Be Topic
Pearl Harbor Day is getting special attention next Thursday at one of the South Side’s largest retirement centers. A public event to commemorate the day is planned for 2 p.m. at Waterford on South Hill retirement center at 29th and Pittsburg.
Members of the Pearl Harbor Survivor’s Association will present a narrated slide show on the Japanese air and submarine attack on the U.S. Navy on Dec. 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
They will describe what they heard and saw when Japanese planes bombed the U.S. fleet anchored in the sheltered island waterway. The attack shocked the nation and triggered the United States’ entry into World War II.
The survivors also will share personal photographs and memorabilia from that time.
