Sponsored Runners Head For Mt. Sac

Lilac Bloomsday Association is again sponsoring Spokane-area runners to Saturday’s Foot Locker West Regional Cross Country Championships at Mt. San Antonio College in California.

This is the eighth year the 32 runners have had the cost of airline tickets defrayed by the local running organization.

More than 60 high-school runners will compete in races against peers from 12 western states.

Lilac Bloomsday-sponsored girls competitors are State A/B champion Laura Halverson from Freeman; Laura Hodgson, Katie Whittaker and Katie Graesser from NC; Adrienne Isgrigg and Robin Bell from Gonzaga Prep; Alana Hagney and Robin Amend from Lewis and Clark; Melissa and Melanie Frostad from East Valley; Heidi Sawatzky from Shadle Park; Kelly Warner from Central Valley; Jamie Geissler and Sara Toguchi from Mead; Amie Dahnke and Christina Winkler from University.

Sponsored boys are two-time State 4A champion Michael Kiter and Richie Nelson from Shadle Park; Chris and Jesse Fayant, Patrick Chessar and Bryan Becherini from Mead; Cameron Schwehr, Tyler Hartanov and Leif Olson from Mt. Spokane; Michael Greenman and Cory Rebmann from Colville; Andrew Ice, Andrew Lewis and David Betts from Ferris; U-Hi’s Brandon Stum and Reid Carrell from Freeman.

The top eight boys and girls finishers from the West Regional seeded races advance to the Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals in Orlando, Fla. on Dec. 9.
