The Ferry County Assessor’s Office is reviewing property valuations in Republic proper, Mud Lake, Gold Mountain Ranches, Swan Lake, Swamp Creek, Granite Creek, Torboy, Pine Grove, Sheridan Road and Gardner Creek.

The Justice Department last week gave final approval to J.R. Simplot’s takeover of Nestle USA’s potato processing plants in the basin and the Idaho potato giant says there will be no changes in employees or plant management.

The City Council has welcomed new member Niels Peterson, a longtime teacher and community supporter who says he will look at providing affordable housing. Pend Oreille County Newport The city has chosen a new clerk/treasurer. He’s Mark Ryan of Somerton, Ariz., a 12-year municipal management veteran.

The National Weather Service office in Spokane is hosting an open house Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2601 N. Rambo Road.

Local postal workers collected 1,300 pounds of food and $90 in donations for the winter food drive and the Kettle River Grange donated $409.

Today at 9 a.m., county commissioners will hold a workshop at the courthouse on rezoning the Moscow/Pullman corridor.

Bonners Ferry

Two of the four turbine generators at the Moyie Dam failed recently and repairs are estimated at $200,000. Mayor Darrell Kerby said the city will have to buy power from the BPA at higher rates and the increase will be passed on to customers.

Kootenai County

Post Falls

The eighth annual Oktoberfest, a fund-raiser for the Post Falls Historical Society, starts at 5 p.m. Thursday at Q’emiln Park Pavilion.

Latah County

Moscow

The Small Scale Logging Technology program starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at the UI Experimental Forest, West Hatter Creek Unit, six miles south of Princeton, Idaho.

Shoshone County

Kellogg

Forest Service Road 1533 will be closed through Oct. 16 to improve drainage at the Marin Creek crossing.
