Fly Casters Honored

Conservation

Years of work to rehabilitate trout habitat in North Idaho lakes and streams has earned the North Idaho Fly Casters an international award for conservation.

The group recently received the McKenzie Cup, an annual award given by the Federation of Fly Fishers to recognize outstanding conservation work.

For years, club members have been the muscle in projects ranging from posting signs to educate anglers about catch-and-release on the upper Coeur d’Alene River to building in-stream habitat at Tepee Creek, Yellowbanks Creek, Beauty Creek and working at Big Hank Meadows. The club also has helped with building disabled fishing facilities at Falls Park Pond and Fernan Lake.

Kent Setty, club past president, said much of the credit for the award goes for the dedication and organizing efforts of the club’s conservation chairman, Earl Frizzell.
