Get A Hunch/Bet A Bunch

You make money at the track by recognizing little things. Like Jock Itch.

I sense Jock Itch coming on in tonight’s fourth race, where jockey Rowdy Luark is just itching to get back with trainer Fred Davis and his filly, Simply Rosie.

Luark rode her to a comfortable win in her maiden voyage here a month ago. When the filly was wheeled back two weeks ago, jockey Clark Jones wound up with the assignment. She apparently bled when beaten by 15 lengths.

So Davis has her back in tonight, treated with the anti-bleeding medication Lasix, and with Luark back in the irons.

Don’t toss the Luark/Davis/Simply Rosie team out of your exotics.

In the third, Gonzaga Prep and University of Idaho alumnus Tim McCanna is among the finest conditioners in the Northwest. He mentioned last summer that he had a horse entered at Emerald Downs, who he really wanted to see run well. It was owned, McCanna said, by the toughest client he’s ever worked for.

His dad.

So expect McCanna to have Cassal’s Choice - co-owned by his dad, Dan McCanna - ready for tonight’s lower-rent claiming bash for non-winners of two races lifetime.

You never want to rile the old man.

Tonight’s stabs.
