Road closure not right

I am a school bus driver who used to pick up kindergarten kids in the Midilome neighborhood until Chester added a kindergarten class.

One of the parents who is a big part of this organization to close Midilome roads (Oct. 21 Valley Voice) told me that if the buses would not pick up their kids then the buses didn’t need to go through their neighborhood.

Are the roads in this neighborhood built with county money or private money?

If it was built with private money, then why are the county snow plows keeping the roads cleared? If public money built or maintains those roads, then nobody should have a right to close them.

People speed past my place, they speed on Interstate 90, they use 24th between Pines and Highway 27 as a shortcut and speedway, yet I don’t see people closing those roads down.

Maybe the problem lies with the Sheriff’s Department not patrolling the areas and ticketing the speeders.

Why are our county commissioners allowing a few people to dictate which roads they want closed to the public, even though our tax money went into building these roads?

Have the people purchased the roads from the county? Have they taken responsibility for the maintenance, snow removal and safety of the roads. If so, then I guess they can dictate who drives on their roads.

Otherwise, those people have no right dictating anything. Karen De Ruwe Otis Orchards

Signal light needed

As a resident of Liberty Lake for the past three years, I have noticed rapid growth in business and residential.

The new Safeway store has opened among other new businesses incurring additional traffic.

We are in need of a signal light at the intersection of Liberty Lake Road and Country Vista Drive.

Let’s prevent unnecessary accidents for the Liberty Lake residents. Sandra Nierenberg Liberty Lake
