Valley Ymca Offers Friday Program
Parents looking for activities for their children next Friday have a few choices in the Spokane Valley.
Public schools are on holiday that day in honor of Veterans Day.
The Valley YMCA will hold all-day programs at Dishman Baptist Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Children already enrolled full time in the Y’s before- and after-school care can attend Friday’s program at no cost.
Other participants must be registered and paid for by Wednesday. Cost is $22, or $19 for Y members. The YMCA can be reached at 927-1474.
The Valley Y also expects a heavy turnout of children taking advantage of its gym and pools Friday. The Y has established a limit of three hours for children who are not supervised by a grown-up, said director Steve Jurich.
Other options for schoolchildren next Friday include programs for gymnastics and art at the Lilac City Gymnastics Center and the Lilac Studio Arts Academy. Cost for each camp is $30; children must bring a sack lunch.
The gymnastics center and art academy are located at 1104 N. Park Road.
The gymnastics camp is open to children age 5 and older; no previous gymnastics experience is required. The program will include games and instruction.
The art camp is open to children 4 and above. Four- to 8-year-olds will work on Spanish maracas, sculpture, nature art, stuffed fish and plaster bag sculpture.
Older children will learn about book binding, plaster sculpture and will make hemp jewelry and nature art.
Children will complete as many of these projects as their creative pace allows.
Advance registration is required for the art and gymnastics programs by calling 927-5993.
