Marna Estep Spokane

Memorial service for Marna M. Estep, 95, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Rockwood Manor. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Estep, who was born in Parkriver, N.D., died Wednesday.

Her family moved to Spokane when she was a child.

After graduating from Lewis and Clark High School she moved to Oregon and graduated from Oregon State University.

She worked as a medical technologist at Columbia University in New York.

Mrs. Estep returned to Spokane in 1955. She worked at Hollister-Stier Labs and then Sacred Heart Hospital. She retired in the mid 1970s.

She was a member of the Friends Society and Manito United Methodist Church.

Her husband of 10 years, Albert, died in 1944.

Mrs. Estep is survived by a sister, Della Kennedy of Clarkston, Wash.

Jean Faylor Spokane

Memorial service for Jean “Jeannie” Faylor, 71, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

A 65-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Faylor died Tuesday. She was born in Edmonton, Alberta.

She had worked on the assembly line at Itron.

Mrs. Faylor was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 3433 Auxiliary and the Eagles.

Survivors include a son, Ragan Faylor, and a brother, Stan Perry, both of Spokane; and a grandson.

Amanda Cleveland Spokane

Memorial service for Amanda Lilly Cleveland, 95, was Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church. Private burial was at Pines Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Cleveland died Wednesday. She was born on the Five Mile Prairie.

She was a homemaker and a member of Hope Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Boyd, died in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Robert Cleveland of Olalla, Wash.; a brother, Elmer Lemke, and a sister, Lucille McCullum, both of Spokane; seven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.

Claire (Williams) Bremner Spokane

No service will be held for Claire Helen (Williams) Bremner, 98, at her request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Republic, Wash., Mrs. Bremner died Wednesday.

She graduated from Cheney Normal School and taught near Nespelem, Wash., and later in Curlew, Wash.

In 1929 she married Alex Bremner. They operated a cattle ranch near Republic and were named the Washington State Cattlemen of the Year in 1953. They later sold the ranch and retired.

In 1965 they moved to the Glenrose area in Spokane.

She was a member of the Glenrose Women’s Club.

Her husband died in 1973.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Hoitink of Spokane; a son, Bryan Bremner of DeSmet, Idaho; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Hilda (Waltner) Gering Ritzville, Wash.

Visitation for Hilda M. (Waltner) Gering, 90, will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville. Service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Menno Mennonite Church in Ritzville. Burial will follow at the Menno Mennonite Cemetery.

A lifetime Ritzville area resident, Mrs. Gering died Thursday. She was born in Menno, Wash., near Ritzville.

She graduated in 1929 from Odessa (Wash.) High School.

In 1934 she married Ralph Gering.

Mrs. Gering was a homemaker. She also farmed with her husband in the Menno area. They moved into Ritzville in 1946.

She moved into the Life Care Center in Ritzville in 1997.

Mrs. Gering was a member of the Menno Mennonite Church.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Gordon and Warren Gering, both of Ritzville, and Curtis Gering of Lind, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Audrey (Kulp) Hedrick Colville, Wash.

Service for Audrey R. (Kulp) Hedrick, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Colville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

A 70-year Colville resident, Mrs. Hedrick died Friday. She was born in Albion, Wash.

She married Frank Hedrick in 1936. They farmed in the Echo Valley area until moving into Colville in 1974.

Mrs. Hedrick was a member of the Colville Valley Grange and the Stevens County Historical Society.

Her husband died in 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Ringer of Colville and Janet Chandler of Steptoe, Wash.; two sons, John and Dale Hedrick, both of Colville; a sister, Ruth Cisneros of Everett; a brother, Alton Kulp of Pasco; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

John Dietz Spokane

Memorial service for John Wesley Dietz, 83, was Sunday at Berean Bible Church.

Mr. Dietz, who was born in Harbor Beach, Mich., died Wednesday.

His family moved to Colville, Wash., when he was a child. He graduated from Colville High School in 1938.

He married Naoma Halsey in 1941.

During World War II he worked in the shipyards in Portland. He also worked on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam.

He and his wife moved to the Spokane Valley in 1949.

Mr. Dietz worked at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood for 33 years. He retired as a machinist in 1983.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1948 and was a volunteer at the Valley Senior Center.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jeanne Perry of Spokane and Carole McRae of Auburn, Wash.; a son, John Dietz of Indianapolis; three sisters, Delores Finkbeiner of North Bend, Ore., Naomi Knox of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Lois Calkins of Aptos, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Senior Center.

Warren Vaughn Cheney

No service will be held for Warren A. Vaughn, 80, at his request. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in St. Paul, Minn., Mr. Vaughn died Thursday.

He served in the Army and was stationed in Japan.

In 1956 he married Ikumi Fakaya. They moved to Alaska, where he managed Noncommissioned Officers clubs for the military.

In 1963 they moved to Cheney. He worked with the ROTC Department at Eastern Washington University and retired in 1966 after 20 years as a sargeant major.

After his retirement he owned the Happy Time Tavern in Spokane for 11 years.

Mr. Vaughn received two commendation medals; one for his effective efficient management of the NCO Club in Alaska and another for his effective teaching in the ROTC Department at EWU.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Lee Vaughn of California; and a sister, Dorothy Fritz of St. Paul.
