Support, contributions to Three Cs appreciated

Members of the Three Cs wish to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who supported and contributed to the success of our annual membership cruise. More than 200 people enjoyed the day aboard the “Mish-an-Nock,” and Jerry Jaeger made it possible to have a fantastic brunch at the Resort Golf Course.

Presentation of the 1999/2000 funds in the amount of $45,745 raised by the Three Cs group was given to local charitable organizations. Dozens of raffle prizes donated by the community and members were presented to the lucky recipients while enjoying the lovely surroundings of the golf course. Our current membership was further enhanced by 25 new members and renewal of many others.

Through the generosity of Hagadone Hospitality, Coeur d’Alene Resort staff, local business and individuals, this memorable event took place.

Along with our deepest appreciation comes this special thank you to all involved. LaRee Robinson Three C’s Cruise Committee

Everyone needs to pay their fair share

As I look around and see new neighborhood after new neighborhood spring up (we’ve graduated to tract home developments now), as one green belt of pines after another rapidly disappear here, as the hillsides fill with new, large and expensive homes, I can’t help but ponder the need for infrastructure support.

I can’t help but wonder how people can hope to realize the best of both worlds here - unbridled, unrestrained growth without the expectation of supporting the obvious need for increases in services and all of the related infrastructure add-ons necessary to accommodate so many new vehicles on our roads, so many new faces on our sidewalks and in our stores, and sadly in our courtrooms.

I’m afraid the days of living in caves and being self-reliant are long gone and the hard, cold reality is that we all have to be big boys and girls, grow up and realize that we all have to rely on each other in this new and ever expanding economy of the new century - locally and globally.

I, as much as anyone, dislike having to dig deeper into my pockets each year to shell out more tax money. Prudent fiscal accountability is a given, thrift and wisdom in planning and oversight is essential, but really folks, can we honestly expect to proceed with such unbridled rates of growth and not pay the piper his due?

I learned as a child that money does not grow on trees. Services and infrastructure will not pay for itself! It’s a package deal, like it or not. Thomas D. Keenan Coeur d’Alene
