Social Security Official To Visit
The No. 2 official in the Social Security Administration will visit Spokane on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner William Halter, who serves as the agency’s chief operating officer, is scheduled to have breakfast at 7:15 a.m. at S.L. Start & Associates Inc., where he will meet with three disabled Social Security beneficiaries who have successfully re-entered the local work force.
At 11 a.m., Halter will visit Rogers High School, 1622 E. Wellesley, where he is expected to announce a gift of surplus Social Security computers, which students will recondition for future use in training individuals with disabilities.
Halter was nominated for his current post by President Clinton on Oct. 1, 1999, and confirmed by the Senate on Nov. 10, 1999. Before joining the Social Security Administration, Halter was a senior adviser in the federal Office of Management and Budget.
