Harness Racing Great Dies
Vernon Dancer, a harness driver, trainer and breeder who was recently nominated for the sport’s Hall of Fame, has died. He was 77.
Dancer, whose candidacy to the hall will be voted on this fall, had been hospitalized at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia since early July with a number of illnesses. His younger brother, Stanley Dancer, is a member of the harness racing Hall of Fame.
Jim Ward, winner of two Ironman triathlons in a senior division, died at age 83 after collapsing while cycling in Florida.
Willard “Bubba” Scott, a key defensive player at Southern California in the late 1960s, has died after a long bout with cancer. He was 53.
