Jockey’S Parents File Suit
The parents of jockey J.C. Gonzalez, killed last September during a thoroughbred race at Fairplex Park, have filed a wrongful death suit against the owners of the horse he was riding along with three veterinarians.
The lawsuit charges that the horse, Wolfhunt, was allowed to run despite bone fractures and other serious medical problems.
Gonzalez was leading the race on Sept. 9, 1999 - opening day of the Fairplex meeting - when Wolfhunt, a 4-year-old English-bred horse, broke down about halfway through the final turn.
Gonzalez was thrown and trampled by other horses. Wolfhunt was euthanized after the race.
