Judge Upholds Arbitrator

An Ontario court judge has refused to hear Alexei Yashin’s bid to overturn an arbitrator’s decision which dictates he owes one more season to the Ottawa Senators.

Ontario Justice Douglas Cunningham threw out Yashin’s attempt to have the ruling examined.

Captain Michael Peca and the Buffalo Sabres are far part in contract talks three days before the team opens training camp.

“We have a difference of opinion. The distinction is substantial,” Peca’s agent, Don Meehan, said Tuesday. Meehan said he might explore “other options” depending on how negotiations go.

Center Matt Cullen, who had 13 goals and 26 assists in 80 games last season, has re-signed for one year with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

The Vancouver Canucks have signed free-agent left wing Dody Wood, who played with the IHL’s Kansas City Blades last season.
