Man Escapes Without Shoplifted Dvd Player

Spokane County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a preppy shoplifter in a blue station wagon who tried to steal a DVD player from a South Hill store Saturday, Cpl. Dave Reagan said.

A security guard for ShopKo, 4515 S. Regal, told investigating deputies that about 8:30 p.m. Saturday a man entered the store, removed a DVD player valued at $220 from the shelf and walked out without stopping to pay, Reagan said. When the guard confronted the man outside, he dropped the DVD and ran away, Reagan said. The guard chased the man and was able to knock him off balance, but they both fell down.

When they got up, the alleged shoplifter made threatening gestures at the guard, as if he were going to strike him, Reagan said. The guard told deputies that’s when a woman in a light blue Chevy station wagon drove up and shouted, “Get in!” Reagan said. The man and woman drove away.

The guard said the man was about 40 years old, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with brown hair. He wore a teal polo shirt and khaki pants.
