Multiple Choice Parents Have Several Options When Deciding Where To Send Their Children To School

This is the time of year when many parents begin to cope with the consequences of a difficult decision: where to send their children to school.

Kootenai County has several well-attended private schools, a 1-year-old charter school and the usual complement of public schools. In addition, home schooling remains a popular alternative.

Handle Extra asked four parents and one high school student to write about their experiences and what led them to make their various decisions.

One of the must unusual stories is from Geri Hagler of Coeur d’Alene. She’s a public school teacher who made the wrenching decision to send her child to a private Christian school.

We hope that by providing this glimpse into this decision-making process, we offer our readers a greater understanding of the dilemma facing some parents.
