A man was dragged by a train after it snagged his backpack.

Jon Paturalski, 21, suffered cuts and scrapes.

Paturalski, who said he had come from Missoula, was walking with a female companion Saturday night when the southbound train caught the backpack.

Dispatchers said they did not know how far Paturalski had been dragged.

The couple denied either trying to jump off or climb aboard the train. Paturalski told police his backpack was wide.

The man asked police to notify the train’s engineers so they could retrieve the pack, which was apparently still hanging on the last car of the train. Paturalski said the pack held all of his possessions.
