Vandals Volleyball Team Rolls On

The University of Idaho volleyball team improved its record to 7-1 and ran its winning streak to six Tuesday night, defeating Montana 15-9, 15-5, 10-15, 15-11 at Missoula.

Senior outside Jenny Kniss led Idaho’s offense with 17 kills and 10 digs as the Vandals finished with a lowly .165 hitting percentage.

Junior outside hitter Heather Kniss and senior middle blocker Regan Butler also tallied double-doubles. Kniss had 13 kills and 12 digs and Butler contributed 10 kills and and 13 digs. Setter Jenny Neville had two digs and 50 assists, her third 50-assist match this season.

Idaho outblocked Montana (5-4) 13-5. Freshman Anna-Marie Hammond had a season-high eight blocks and Jenny Kniss followed closely with seven.

Freshman middle blocker Megan Egbert led the Community Colleges of Spokane with 11 kills as the Sasquatch held off North Idaho College 15-6, 13-15, 15-13, 9-15, 15-12 at Spokane Falls Community College. Egbert finished with a .790 kill percentage.

NIC sophomore outside hitter Jessica Janke had a match-high 12 kills and 21 digs.

Golf

Led by junior Tasha Browner, the Washington State University women’s golf team set records for single-round team scoring, tournament scoring, individual single-round scoring and individual tournament scoring at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.

The Cougars finished the three-day tournament second with 900 strokes, trailing Nevada (878). Gonzaga (1,000) finished 13th of 15 teams.

Browner of Tarzana, Calif., broke the single-round scoring record Monday by firing a 5-under-par 67. Tuesday, she shot 71 to finish with a school record 7-under 71-67-71-209. She placed second overall, two strokes behind Nevada’s Angie Yoon. WSU’s Jennifer Dodd was second on the team with 228, followed by Becky Greggain (231), Donna Bell (236) and Shanelle Roberts (237).

Sophomore Dustin White shot a record-tying 65 as the Washington State men’s golf team moved from 14th to finish ninth at the Northwest Collegiate Classic at Corvallis, Ore.

White, from Pueblo West, Colo., finished at 74-68-65-207 for seventh place overall. He was followed by teammates Jeremy Taylor (T45, 217), Jon Reehoorn (T45, 217) and Roger Flynn (T51, 218).

Nevada won the team title, and Oregon’s Chris Carnahan shot 7-under 203 for individual honors.
