Wine Grape Group Expects Big Crop
The Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers estimates that the September harvest will yield 88,500 tons of grapes this season - almost 25 percent more than the previous record year, 1998.
Part of the bumper crop is due to favorable weather conditions, said association chairman Roger Gamache. In addition, more acres of grapes have been planted and are now bearing fruit.
Harvest continues through mid-October.
