Congregation Prepares For Yearly Greek Dinner Festival
The shopping is complete and the baking is under way as the congregation of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church prepares for its 65th annual Greek Dinner Festival Sept. 28-30.
Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 8 p.m. each day.
The hugely popular festival requires a lot of ingredients. The shopping list included 1,500 pounds of beef, 45 cases of green beans, 420 pounds of butter, 700 pounds of flour, 200 pounds of feta cheese, six gallons of lemon juice and 45 dozen eggs.
The festival also features pastry sales from noon to 8 p.m. daily. There will also be a Greek boutique, Greek dancing and tours of the church. Takeout dinners will be available.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at the church, G. Arger Realty Co. at 300 N. Mullan in the Valley, City Ramp Garage at First and Stevens downtown and at Spartan Cutlery in the NorthTown Mall. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The church is located at 1703 N. Washington.
Community hymn sing Sunday
His Song, a local men’s singing group, will perform during a community hymn sing scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church, 6528 N. Monroe. All are invited to attend the hourlong program.
`Early bird’ service offered
The First Church of the Nazarene will begin offering an “early bird” worship service this week. The new service will be offered at 8 a.m. each Sunday in addition to the regularly scheduled services at 9:30 and 11 a.m.

Flea market Saturday
Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, will host a community flea market Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church’s parking lot.
