Quilts A Highlight

The beautiful weather had fairgoers out in force on Wednesay.

Or maybe it was the quilts. Though it’s rare these days, you can see quilts that are all hand-done, said Dorie Clark, president of the Washington State Quilters, which puts on demonstrations at the fair. Here are some don’t-miss quilts:

Manda Benton’s “12 Days of Christmas,” which took best in show. It’s all handmade. It’s a truly exceptional piece of work, Clark said.

Margie Karavitis’ blue-ribbon masterpiece “Brick wall, sky and grass.” She used more than 2,000 fabrics. Chairs are set up so it can be viewed properly.

Becky Kramarz’s applique-style quilt called “Sunbonnet Sue throughout the year.” The first-place winner is sweet and charming, Clark said.

Karyn Monroe’s second-place entry called “My Mariners,” made with Mariner T-shirts.
