Rachel Mogen piled up 18 kills, 13 digs and six blocks Thursday night to lead Lake City (3-7, 1-1) to a 15-13, 15-4, 15-4 Border League volleyball win over visiting West Valley.
Shannon Groh had seven kills for the Eagles (1-4, 1-1).
Arin Martinez and Lauren Parriman added six digs apiece.
WV led the first game 9-5 after Parriman served nine consecutive points.
Also in the Border League, Shannon McGrane, Karlie Pein and Janet Vach had seven kills apiece to lead Colville to a 15-9, 15-8, 15-8 win at Coeur d’Alene (1-5, 0-2). Anna Noble added 10 digs and Janet Vach five blocks for the Indians (2-1), who won their league opener. Lorin Griffitts had 14 kills and Jessica Helmhout added eight digs for the Vikings (1-5, 0-2).
Kara Kiefer served the final five points of the match and Lakeland (3-0) overcame a 9-3 second-game deficit to defeat visiting Kellogg 15-7, 15-12 in the Intermountain League. Sarah Hansen added 10 kills and Desirae Crocker eight digs for the Hawks. Kellogg is 0-2 in league… . Also in the IML, Katie Smith served 15 for 15 and Arienne Wilcott had seven kills and three blocks as St. Maries (2-0) took a 2-0 win at Bonners Ferry (2-2)… . Charlotte Scofield had 12 kills and Ashley Ruen added 14 digs as Clark Fork rallied for a 14-16, 15-8, 15-13 non-league win at Wallace.

Derek Taylor’s goal at 3 minutes allowed Lake City to play ball control to combat the 90-degree heat, and the Timberwolves (3-3, 2-1) topped visiting Lewiston 2-0 in the North Idaho League. Jeremy Fender added a score late in the first half for Lake City… . Also in the league, Jake Bachman scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season to help Sandpoint to an 8-0 win over visiting Lakeland. Defender Chase Mikkelsen was the leader in holding the Hawks to two shots on goal.
Girls soccer
Kaitlin Mitchell scored three times, two on headers, and Lake City topped visiting Gonzaga Prep 6-2. Megan Holmes assisted on LC’s first two goals… . In other non-leaguers, Elisa Millard scored at 68 minutes to lift Mt. Spokane (3-2) to a 1-0 win over visiting Sandpoint. Alli Fischer attempted a pass to Millard, but the ball bounced off Bulldogs goalkeeper Heather Reifsnyder and back to Fischer. The follow-up pass made its way to Millard for the goal… . Becky Thompson scored the first two goals and Tawny Moore added one goal and one assist to guide Post Falls (3-3) to a 6-0 win over visiting Rogers.

Rose Sauer had six kills and four players had two aces apiece to lead Newport (3-0) to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Deer Park (0-2) in Great Northern League girls volleyball … .
