Kitchen Fire Damages House

Firefighters doing inspections on Friday spotted a house fire in the Spokane Valley.

The firefighters saw smoke coming from a house in the 2200 block of North Vista Road around 1:30 p.m. Firefighters entered the house and extinguished a kitchen fire that caused an estimated $20,000 damage, according to Valley Fire District investigator Kevin Miller.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

A burner accidentally left on likely ignited oil in a pot on the stove, Miller said.

The residents of the house are renters and don’t have insurance, he said.

It was the second kitchen fire in the Valley last week.

A smaller fire was reported around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of South Mariam Road. A burner turned on by mistake destroyed the stove and cabinet above it, causing $2,500 damage.
