Mcgrane Energizes Colville
Shannon McGrane totaled 12 digs, 11 kills and four aces on Saturday to lead Colville (5-2, 4-1) to a 2-15, 15-13, 15-2, 9-15, 15-10 win at Moscow, Idaho, in Border League volleyball.
Jennifer Mallory added 24 assists for the Indians. Colville’s losses are to defending state champions Sandpoint (Idaho A-1) and Lakeside (Washington 2A) of Nine Mile Falls.
Jessica Vasquez led the Bears (6-3, 3-1) with 10 digs, 29 assists and four aces.
Colville’s win left Sandpoint as the league’s only undefeated team.
Also in the league, Danielle Rainville’s seven kills led Lewiston (1-2) to a 15-10, 15-4 win at Lake City (1-3).
Amy Dyck had 16 kills and Keely Kinzer added 16 digs as Sandpoint defeated the host Lumberjacks 13-15, 15-13, 15-3, 15-7 to finish undefeated at the St. Maries tournament. Sandpoint also had a 3-0 win over Rogers and a 3-2 decision against Ferris after winning the first game 15-0. St. Maries swept both Ferris and Rogers 3-0 earlier in the day. The Lumberjacks’ only two losses in 19 matches are to Sandpoint.
Leah Dahlin had 10 kills and Sam Almond added 35 assists as Newport (5-2, 5-0) continued to set the pace in the Great Northern League with a 3-1 win at Riverside (1-4, 0-3). Jenni Woodard had 11 kills and five digs for the Rams, who won the third game 16-14 with six consecutive points. Newport plays Thursday at Lakeside, the league’s other unbeaten team. … Also in the GNL, Katie Tikker served 10 consecutive points, including five aces, as Lakeside (5-0, 3-0) won the clinching game 15-8 to complete a 3-0 sweep of visiting Deer Park (0-7, 0-4). Lakeside must play at Pullman (4-1 GNL) on Monday before it turns its attention to Newport… . Amy Chamberlain jump-served six aces, including two to start the fifth game, as visiting Pullman outlasted Medical Lake 15-13, 15-7, 8-15, 10-15, 15-9. Kate Murphy added 18 digs for the Greyhounds. Nicole Jones totaled 14 kills and and three blocks for the Cardinals (1-5, 0-3), who stormed ahead 13-2 in the fourth game.
Cindy Swain totaled 19 kills and three blocks as Davenport (7-1, 2-0) defeated visiting Almira/CouleeHartline 15-4, 15-6 in a key Bi-County League match. ACH, which (5-1, 1-1) placed fifth at last year’s State B tournament, hadn’t dropped a game this year.
Moses Lake (2-4) defeated host Kennewick 16-14, 2-15, 15-8, 15-8 in a Big Nine Conference match. The Lions are 0-6.
Football
Jacob Kirk rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns on 35 carries to lead Cusick (3-0, 2-0) to a 54-28 win over Pateros in a Northeast B-8 game at Davenport. Cusick’s Dusty Person added 118 yards on 19 carries and threw TD passes of 40 and 14 yards to Kirk. The Billygoats (2-1, 1-1) were outgained 349-69 on the ground.
Girls soccer
Kaitlin Mitchell scored three goals to guide Lake City (8-2-1, 4-0) to a 4-0 win over visiting Cheney (4-2, 3-1) in the Border League… . Also in the league, junior Chelsea Zenner scored four goals to rally Moscow (8-2, 2-1) to a 5-1 win at Colville (2-4-1, 0-4). The Indians were missing six players because of illnesses, but led 1-0 until the 36th minute.
West Valley’s non-league match at Post Falls was postponed until 4:30 p.m. Monday.
