Columbia Basin Puts Away Sasquatch

Allison Holsten had 19 kills Wednesday night to lead Columbia Basin College to a 15-9, 15-12, 15-8 sweep over visiting Community Colleges of Spokane at Pasco.

Tovah Trimming had 15 kills for the Sasquatch, who dropped to 12-14 overall and 1-2 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

The Hawks (3-0 NWAACC) are defending conference champions. Holsten was named most valuable player at last year’s conference tournament.

Crystal Ferris had 14 kills, eight digs and served 14 for 14 to lead North Idaho College (3-13, 1-3) to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Dixie College (8-14, 2-2) in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

Women’s soccer

Amanda Chase scored twice to guide CCS (4-6-2) to a 3-2 win over Gonzaga’s junior varsity at Spokane Falls Community College.

On Chase’s second goal, Courtney Phinney received the ball close to the corner and sent a sharp crossing pass to the 6-yard box. Chase tapped in the ball after a diagonal run.

Heather Hayes headed in a goal off Cassie Angelos’ free kick, allowing NIC (5-1-2) to tie the visiting Eastern Washington JV 1-1.

Men’s soccer

CCS (5-3-3) came up empty after 17 shots on goal, finishing with a scoreless tie against Gonzaga’s JV at SFCC.
