Valley Fire Takes Second, Third
Spokane Valley Fire District firefighters made a strong showing in a regional skills competition last weekend but finished behind Boise in team standings.
Boise firefighters walked away with the first-place team trophy for the third straight year, but Valley Fire District teams took second and third places at the fourth annual firefighting “combat challenge” at the Spokane Valley Mall.
The competition, which tests firefighting skills in a series of timed events, is a benefit for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and is sponsored by the local firefighters union.
There were 11 teams competing from around the Northwest.
The following Valley firefighters placed in the top 10 for individual times: Steve Spuler, Ryan VanWey, Rhys Evans, John Leavell and Jason LaJiness.
