E. Valley School Bond Loses In Squeaker

From Staff

After all the votes were counted, East Valley School District’s technology bond received 58.8 percent support. The $6.27 million proposal needed 60 percent to pass.

East Valley school officials say the money would have allowed them to boost the number of computers in their schools to a 4-to-1 ratio of students to computers. Currently there is a 15-to-1 ratio.

In all, 2,594 voters backed the measure, with 1,813 voters opposing. All counts on the Sept. 19 primary election were made final on Friday. “On the one hand, we’re really disappointed it didn’t pass,” said East Valley Superintendent Les Portner. “On the other hand, that is the largest number of `yes’ votes received in any bond or levy election in the past 20 years.”

The district will consider how and when to bring a technology proposal before the voters again.
