What Does 2001 Hold For You?
Twelve members of Our Generation took a most facetious look into the future to see what the new year will bring. Here’s what they found:
Capricorn
(Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
It’s a good idea to attend church more in the coming year. At the same time, you should come clean about that little accident on the 21st. Also, while you’re confessing, you should tell your parents about the dent you put in their car on the way to the “library.” This may be a good year for your love life, but then again, it may not. One last thing: That wasn’t chicken.
— Jack Nelson, Mt. Spokane
Aquarius
(Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
You may find the romance of your dreams in the new year, but you may not. You may become financially successful, but you may not. Your utmost desires and wishes quite possibly could come true, but don’t count on it. All your problems are likely to disappear, but then again, maybe not. Your grades will be higher than ever, but don’t get your hopes too high. And lastly, you may find yourself in a compromising position — but that’s not for certain. The most important thing is that you forget the past and enjoy yourself this year.
— Riley Palmer, Cheney
Pisces
(Feb. 19-March 20)
One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. You can expect several changes in your life and yourself this year. Your status-quo world will shatter when you least expect it. Work hard for what you want, and spend time with family that you may have distanced. Slippery situations with loved ones will challenge your understanding of those who understand you. A new group of friends will enter your life, leaving you feeling less like a fish out of water. Life offers more options for growth. Most of all, avoid horoscopes with fishy puns that stink worse than a dead carp.
—Mary Ann Almeida, Bowdish
Aries (March 21-April 19)
2001 is all about planning ahead for you. Whether you are considering college, career or family, your head is in the clouds. The new year could mean the beginning of a new life. Start by waking up a few minutes early every morning and enjoying the world around you. There is so much out there just waiting to be explored. So many new ideas are popping into your head that you don’t know what to do with them. Start the year right by keeping a journal. Be crazy and write what comes to you. Who knows where it might lead? - August Wyssman, Ferris
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
The new year will be full of surprises, and the fun starts immediately. Expect to spend a lot of time cramming for tests, starting new relationships and nourishing friendships. Be sure to take time for yourself. This year holds rare opportunities for growth and learning. Be strong. Remember that happiness often comes disguised as a problem. - Keyanna Dos Santos, Shadle
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
It’s a brand new year, baby, teeming with possibilities for wondrous things. This may be your best year yet. A brief synopsis: You can expect to meet someone new in January. You’ll have a telephone conversation sometime in early April. You’ll find one of those nifty state quarters in your pocket this summer. You’ll stare at a ceiling tile in late September or early October. The stars also indicate you’ll use a fork near the middle of December. You’ll only survive this year if you’re willing to take risks. (Feel free to wear that gutsy shade of cat-vomit yellow.) Go get ‘em, tiger. - Kathy Bula, East Valley
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Celebrate. This is the year you’ll come out of your shell and get down with your shy self. Let your creativity shine. Do something new each day. Make new friends. Be a practical spender (or saver). Look your fears in the face. You’ll get that job you’ve always wanted. Who knows? Maybe one of your friends will become famous. - Ashley Ellerd, Shadle
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
2001 is looking good. Scoop up all that momentum and explode into the new year. Anything you want to accomplish is possible. Balance your studies with a hot-wired social life. Test your limits and explore your goals. If you aren’t up for being serious, hunt down opportunities to express your silly side. By year’s end, you’ll be more confident than ever. Friends will be shocked by your new personality. On the down side, the new year might test some of those friendships, both romantic and platonic. Stay true to yourself. - Jamie Bates, West Valley
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Virgo is going back to school this year to become a paralegal. She’s going to be too busy with classes, so you’ll be in charge of your own fate this year. She did, however, leave the following advice on a sticky note: Watch out when Venus is in the third house. The Larsons live there and they aren’t fond of houseguests. But good luck will come your way on the 9th, 17th, 24th and 37th of each month. Any day with a zero in it is bad news, but struggle builds character. Or not. On those days, avoid people with a long “A” sound in their name. And every day, watch out for buses. - Dani Peterson, Mt. Spokane
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
If life is like a box of chocolates, let’s hope you like coconut. Be prepared to poke, sniff, shake and ponder the hidden ingredients, because the little road map is missing from inside the box. You won’t know until you take that fateful first bite. You likely will face a great deal of temptation throughout the year, but resist the urge to sneak chocolates before dinner. Patience pays off. Others will be irked when you shirk important responsibilities since nobody likes to find half-eaten cherry creams. But everybody has to spit out a few bad ones to get to the caramels. - Julie Kanago, Central Valley
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
The great aura of the third moon of Saturn indicates that this coming year will be interesting to say the least. You shall discover the secret to great wealth only to forget where you put it. Someone you know will have a misadventure that likely involves setting his or her hair aflame, but the victim will escape unscathed. For giving aid in a time of need, you will be repaid with your innermost desire, likely a DVD player. And the greatest prediction of all is that the full moon reveals you shall wake up in the morning. - Daniel Bigler, Christian Heritage
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
It’s a lucky year for Sagittarians! The stars line up with two of Saturn’s moons, which will appear to the north of Venus. The big event you have planned will go smoothly, even though someone will go to extremes to ruin it. You will become a contestant on “Who Wants to Be a Millioniare,” and Regis Philbin will confess his undying love for you. - Kasey O’Brien, Post Falls Middle School
