Burns claim man pulled from house fire

From wire reports

A man burned in a house fire in northwest Spokane Tuesday night died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the Spokane Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called to the home at 5227 N. Wall for the report of a possible explosion and fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found the man, whose name was not released, in the living room of the residence with critical burns to his body.

He was lying near the front door, said Lt. Chris Phillips, a fire investigator.

The man was transported by ambulance to a downtown hospital, and later transferred to Harborview where he died early Wednesday morning, Phillips said.

“I think he was a victim of a fire that he accidentally caused himself. He was asleep at the time the fire occurred and was unable to make it out of the house,” Phillips said.

Phillips declined to release the exact cause of the fire.
