Workshop Sunday on ‘What bugs you about the Bible’

Sallye Taylor will present a workshop at Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., this Sunday.

Taylor is the founder and minister of the Soul Food Unity Ministry near Kansas City, Mo. She has a degree in psychology and education from the Tennessee State University and became an ordained Unity minister in 1979. She attended graduate school at the University of Chicago and at St. Paul’s School of Theology in Kansas City.

She will present a workshop titled, “What Bugs you about the Bible” based on John Shelby Spong’s book, “Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism,” and Marcus Borg’s book, “Reading the Bible for the First Time.” The workshop will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Taylor also will speak at the 9 and 11 a.m. services at the church.

Art camp

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is hosting a free art camp Monday through Aug. 13 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Children in the fourth grade and up are invited to express themselves through papier-mache, clay, paints and making their own stamps.

Vacation Bible school

• Vacation Bible school at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will be Monday through Aug. 13.

Preschool children through the third grade are invited to learn about God’s “All-Star Champions.”

There will be snacks, Bible stories, games, songs and arts and crafts from 9:30 a.m. to noon. There will be no signup fee. For information, call the church office at 838-4277.
