Lowdown

Walter Jones is in the process of missing his third straight training camp, but he’s been able to regain his Pro Bowl form the last two seasons. Still, Seattle must spend considerable time at camp shuffling linemen to cover for Jones and others who have suffered injuries. Floyd “Pork Chop” Womack, currently sidelined with a strained calf, and Matt Hill are among those who have filled in, giving the line additional flexibility. Womack will probably return to guard when all of Seattle’s linemen are back in the fold. Chris Terry, expected to start at right tackle, improved last year as the season progressed. Wayne Hunter is a good-looking prospect, but he hasn’t been able to practice as he recovers from wrist surgery. Isaac Herring is arguably the strongest player on the team, but considered a long shot.

Fast fact

Jones hasn’t made it to Cheney for three years but he’s missed just two starts _ in 2002 as part of his ongoing contract dispute – since 1997.

“We’ve built some depth at tackle and guard (particularly through the draft) and it’s time for those guys to rise up a little and hopefully that will happen.” _ Line coach Bill Laveroni.
