EDMONTON, Alberta — The United States defeated Japan 2-0 Sunday to win the first World Cup of Women’s Baseball.

The Americans broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth when Laura Brenneman was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a single by Sarah Gascon.
