Stabbing suspect held on $50,000 bond
A Millwood man charged with stabbing his brother Sunday was ordered held on a $50,000 bond.
Joseph K. Oka, 26, was charged with first-degree assault in connection with the stabbing.
According to court documents, Joseph Oka was at his family home, E. 8923 Grace in Millwood, with his younger brother, Jay Oka.
Jay Oka told investigators he was sitting on the living room floor eating a bowl of ice cream at about 12:30 p.m. when Joseph Oka came downstairs.
“Joseph said to Jay, ‘Jay, I’m sorry to have to do this to you,’ ” Deputy Mike Beckman wrote in his report. “Joseph then began stabbing Jay with a large hunting type knife described as having a 12-inch blade.”
Jay Oka ran next door to get help and deputies surrounded the house, believing that Joseph Oka was inside. About five hours later, Beckman was tipped off that Joseph Oka was walking along Buckeye Avenue and arrested him. Jay Oka was treated for serious injuries and released.

Man fleeing police jumps from bridge, dies
Seattle A man jumped from a bridge and died early Monday morning while trying to flee Seattle Police officers.
Police noticed around 1 a.m. what appeared to be two men trying to break into a car near Safeco Field, south of downtown.
When officers attempted to stop the men, they fled in another vehicle, heading toward the First Avenue South bridge.
Television reports said speeds reached up to 55 mph and only one police cruiser continued to pursue the vehicle.
A short time later, officers discovered the crashed vehicle. One of the men attempted to flee on foot and jumped nearly 50 feet off the bridge.
Emergency crews attempted to resuscitate the man, but he died at the scene.
Screens to be installed to block glare
Tacoma The state Department of Transportation will spend $247,000 to put up a huge screen to reduce glare from lights on a golf driving range for drivers on the new Tacoma Narrows bridge, even though officials say they aren’t sure there’s actually a safety problem.
The 400-foot long, 32-foot high screen will cut glare from the heavily illuminated Performance Golf Center in Gig Harbor, at the west end of the bridge.
The screen is to be added because some residents think the glare may bother motorists, said Claudia Cornish, a Transportation Department spokeswoman.
“We haven’t heard of it actually causing problems, she told The News Tribune of Tacoma for an article Monday. “On this project – given its contentious history – we are doing everything we can to accommodate requests from the local residents.”
Many in Gig Harbor oppose the new toll bridge, arguing they will have to pay too much of the $849 million cost.
The state plans to pay the driving range $247,000 to build the screen and maintain it for five years. The cost includes $31,000 to compensate Performance Golf for lost business during the screen’s construction.
Detectives arrest suspected food burglar
Seattle King County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a man suspected of being a food burglar.
They believe the man is responsible for breaking into nine homes in north Seattle suburbs – five in Shoreline and four in Lake Forest Park. Some of the homes were occupied at the time.
Besides taking money, the detectives say the man would take food out of refrigerators. In one case, he thawed food from a freezer, then cooked and ate it.
The man was detained at a church and arrested.
Additional details were not immediately available Monday.
