No. Illinois delays decision on A.D.
Northern Illinois University’s decision for an athletic director has been delayed until at least next week.
Eastern Washington University athletic director Scott Barnes is one of three finalists for the position at the DeKalb, Ill., school. Barnes has been A.D. at Eastern for four years.
The other finalists for the NIU job are Oregon State associate athletic director Kevin Anderson and Notre Dame senior associate athletic director James Phillips.
Faurholt Wooden pick
Emily Faurholt, a center for the University of Idaho women’s basketball team, was named as a preaseason Top 30 candidate for the John R. Wooden award.
The team is composed of athletes who, based on last year’s individual performance and team records, are the early frontrunners for college basketball’s most coveted trophy.
Faurholt is Idaho’s top returning player after averaging 25.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and setting six school records last season.
Team Canada now 3-0
Team Canada earned a 6-3 win over host Slovokia on Thursday and finished the round-robin portion of the Under-18 Junior World Cup undefeated. Canada is 3-0 and will face the U.S. Saturday in the semifinals.
Canada killed 12 of 15 penalties against Slovokia and scored four power-play goals and a shorthanded goal. Spokane Chief Adam Hobson played but did not score.
•The Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League have extended the contract of head coach Don Nachbaur through the 2006-07 season. Terms were not disclosed.
In another move, the team hired Bruno Baseotto as an assistant. Baseotto has been an assistant for the past four years with the Saskatoon Blades.
