The candidates speak
Starting in less than a month, Spokane County voters will be making the biggest change to the County Commission in years.
Longtime incumbents John Roskelley and Kate McCaslin are leaving, and two new commissioners will be voted onto the three-member panel after the Nov. 2 elections.
But first, voters in the Sept. 14 primary must winnow the field. Three of the four primary races are contested, with three Democrats seeking the party’s nod in the District 1 race and three Republicans vying to represent the GOP in district 2.
The new commissioners will face multimillion-dollar decisions regarding taxation and services, sewage treatment, jail crowding and other issues. Spokesman-Review staff writer Amy Cannata asked the candidates to answer questions on a variety of topics they would deal with if elected.
