The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane City Council on Monday set hearings for Monday night on petitions for annexing two small areas on the southeast side of the city.

Both hearings will come during the council’s regular legislative session, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

The first annexation involves 25.3 acres of residential land on South Custer Street between 37th and 42nd avenues. About 40 separate parcels of land are included in the area known as the Muirfield Annexation.

A second annexation is 77.3 acres of commercial and undeveloped properties known as the ShopKo Annexation. The ShopKo at 4515 S. Regal Ave. is included in the annexation.

The area ialso includes a slice of parcels running east and west between Crestline Street and the east side of Regal Street. Sixteen separate properties are involved.

City officials said property owners representing at least 75 percent of the assessed values in each annexation area signed petitions supporting inclusion in the city.
