VFW plans bike safety program

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 51 will hold a bicycle safety program from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the post, 300 W. Mission Ave.

Parents and grandparents are asked to bring children and their bikes to the post where ID photos will be taken of the children and their bikes. There also will be fingerprinting and free items.

Deer Park VFW fund-raiser to help vets

The Deer Park Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary, Post 3067, will hold a benefit to raise money for Operation Uplink, a program that provides prepaid calling cards to service members and hospitalized veterans, giving them the opportunity to make free phone calls to loved ones back home.

A chicken-fried steak dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., dance with the David King Band, 8 to midnight., Aug. 27, 29 E. First, Deer Park.

Greater Morgan Acres Sub-area meeting planned

The Greater Morgan Acres Sub-area meeting will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Fire Station 98, 6606 N. Regal St.

Agenda topics include: Steve Emerson discussing the historic preservation survey; Tom Hargreaves, candidate for county commissioner will speak; Deputy Sheriff Travis Pendell will discuss Neighborhood Watch; and circulation and review discussion of the draft Sub-area Plan.
